dredbosh This is a photo of a scleral lens over an eye that developed a very rare serious disorder of the skin and mucous membranes . known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS). This patient developed this devastating blinding condition after receiving an unknown medication. Both of this patient's eyes have a similar appearance. We fit both of this patient's eyes with a scleral lens in order to protect the eyes from the environment and the blinking action of the eyelids .In addition the scleral lens keeps the ocular surface in a moist environment which helps to minimize the inflammation. Both of this patient's eyes are very painful. While the patient is wearing her scleral lenses the pain she is experiencing is dramatically reduced. This patient will be undergoing multiple ocular surgeries in 2022. In the meantime she will be wearing her scleral lenses until her scheduled operations. This is another example of how this life changing technology is changing lives every day.
